Campers: 1 Weather: 0

This weekend some of us went camping, despite what the Weathernazi told us would be a gloomy, wet and cold weekend. I wont lie, there was lots of wet, and lots of cold, but no gloom...There was plenty of dry wood to keep us warm, and plenty of beer to keep us numb. We played quite a few games of Catchphrase, which is the best game to play whilst sat round the fire. I believe the guys won the Catchphrase tournament. The food this weekend was excellent, thanks to Kendra for the hobo pizzas and Dale & Greg for dinner Saturday night. Friday night was beautiful, with plenty of stars in the sky. Most of Saturday was great with a little bit of rain during the day. Late Saturday night we got the worst of it, but still we had fun, and it was pretty exciting having to fight the wind and rain from tearing apart our canopies.

We were excited to see how well our new gear held up through the wind and rain. The new tent kept us dry and the canopy didn't fall apart.

Sunday morning was the coldest of the entire trip. We quickly made our breakfast and began to pack up our gear. On the way back home we drove through a patch of freezing rain that I'm glad didn't hit us earlier that morning.

As it is with any vacation, Amanda and I returned home and dreaded the unpacking process. We managed to get all the laundry done, but we are waiting for some sun to air out the tent.

Thanks to Amanda, Eddie & Ratchel, Rye Bread & Kendra, Brent & Liz, Nay Nay, Dale & Greg, and Rigby & Tonka for making this weekend great.

It's not looking good...

I keep checking the weather, thinking the winds will change and send the rain, thunder and snow away from us this weekend. I don't think my chances are that good...Either way, the car is mostly packed and ready to go, and the site is only about an hour away. If things get too bad we can pack things up and be back home never the worse for wear.

No matter what the weather brings, there will definitely be good times, good laughs, and good friends this weekend.

To start this off I just want to make sure it's clear that I am not a writer, and I will never pretend to be. I'd like to use this blog as just a collection of thoughts. This is going to be a semi-regular affair, that will be more for my benefit than anyone else's. Although I do hope that other people get some enjoyment out of it.

Lets get right down to it.

This weekend is going to kick off the start of "Camping Season '09". Rain be Damned! I'm looking forward to it, despite the knowledge that at some point I'll probably wake up in the middle of the night freezing cold and wet. The wife and I accomplished our goal of 2008, which was to purchase a new tent. I think I'm more looking forward to trying out the new tent than the actual camping itself. We chose the tent because it slept six, has two doors and in its center can accommodate a 6'3" human. Even though I tower at an impressive 5'8", it's comforting to know that I can get dressed without having to be bent over or trying to shuffle into my pants while on the floor.

Camping Tip # 3,458:
Save your dryer lint. It makes a great firestarter.

In just less than a month I will be turning 26. I'm really starting to regret the fact that the entire year I've been 25 I have not taken advantage of renting a car. Isn't that the big benefit of turning 25...for shame. To think that I could have been renting cars like a mad man, abusing the insurance policy and nearly destroying fine automobiles, and simply wheeling across town to return them no questions asked. I've been such a fool. Sure I can still take part in this tried and true rite of passage, but at this point, would it be as special...

And now...Music You Should Be Listening To.

Band: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Album: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Why: If you're into Radiohead and enjoyed the carnival as a kid, then Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is for you. They have a unique style that is damn near impossible not to enjoy the hell out of. The first time I was exposed I was hooked. Personal faves from this album "Let the Cool Goddess Rust Away" and "The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth". Thanks to ScottyO for introducing them to me.

I think that's enough for now. I'll try to post often with more everyday life events, as well as music, movie, comic book reviews, or just whatever else I'm interested in at the time...
